[20a-P01-3] Trial of Novel Control Method of Apple Snail, Pomacea canaliculata, by Electro-Taxis in a Paddy Field
Keywords:Apple Snail, Pomacea canaliculata, electro taxis
The Apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) is an invasive species that is one of the biggest causes of feeding damage on paddy crops. Although the control techniques of the snail have been published in the Manual by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, it has not been resolved yet. We have been conducting research and development on the control of the snail using an engineering approach, by utilizing the unique behavioral characteristics of the snail to electricity and ultrasonic waves. In this paper, we report on the results of our studies on the effectiveness of electro-taxis of the snail in paddy fields.
