[20p-A202-1] Micro Droplet Formation in a Thermo-Responsive Ionic Liquid/Water Mixture by Single Beam Optical Trapping

We applied optical tweezers to a thermo-responsive ionic liquid/water mixture that exhibits phase separation at elevated tempeature. A core-shell droplet was formed as the result of local temperature elevation and optical attractive force toward the focal spot. The resultant droplet was investigated by Raman micro-spectroscopy as well as fluorescence imaging with the use of a solvatochromic fluorescent dye. Based on these results, we discuss the formation mechanism of the droplet.
