Photothermal deflection spectroscopy is a technique to detect the heat generated by light absorption from a sample as a change in the refractive index of a material in contact with the sample, and can analyze components in living organisms by using mid-infrared light as the excitation light. The existing method requires precise adjustment of the total reflection of the near-infrared probe light in a prism in contact with the sample near the irradiation point of the mid-infrared light, and therefore, it is not suitable for realization of smaller and less expensive systems. In this report, we propose a simple measurement method in which a probe light is passed through a small prism and evaluate its basic characteristics.
