Lanthanum hydrides have recently attracted much attention due to the discovery of room temperature superconductivity in LaH10+x and fast hydride ionic conduction in LaH3-2xOx. On the other hand, LaHx (2 ≤ x ≤ 3) is known to change from a metal to an insulator as x increases. These properties have been studied in bulk polycrystals, and the key to single-crystallization of LaHx is how to overcome the low decomposition temperature. In this study, we have attempted to synthesize LaHx thin films with controlled hydrogen content by using the PLD method.
