Keywords:laser chaos, permutation entropy

Analyzing time series data from information theoretical point of view is important for testing the determinism, classifying and for quantifying complexity for the generation of physical random numbers. Furthermore, the importance of complexity analysis at various time scales has been recognized in recent years, and it has been used for quantitative analysis of the ability of organisms to adapt to their environment. In this study, we analyzed time series obtained from semiconductor lasers with optical feedback based on permutation entropy to provide a new methodology for information-theoretic analysis of time series obtained from the real world.
