Phase modulator is a widely used device in the field of photonic integrated circuits. Researchers have been intensely working on designing the best phase modulator. In this paper, phase modulator has been designed using two different waveguides - rectangular waveguide and slot waveguide. Besides, a comparative analysis has been provided to conclude the best waveguide for phase modulation.
Phase modulator is developed using two different waveguides. Gap G is optimized using absorption loss as a deciding parameter. Further, phase change is studied with respect to voltage. Vπ for rectangular waveguide is more than Vπ for slotted waveguide. Based on this result, it can be concluded that slotted waveguide based design is the best option for phase modulation.
