[21a-P02-33] Observation of Self-Induced Spin-Orbit Torque via Vertical Composition Gradient
Keywords:magnetic multilayer, Spin Hall effect, Spin-orbit torque
Spin-orbit coupling in ferromagnet can generate spin current via charge-to-spin conversion such as spin Hall effect. This spin current induces spin-orbit torques (SOTs) acting on magnetization of ferromagnet itself which is called self-induced SOTs. Self-induced SOTs can be new routes for realizing energy-efficient SOT-based devices. To generate finite self-induced SOT, inversion symmetry in FMs needs to be broken. Here, we show that a vertical composition gradient in ferromagnet can be an effective way to introduce inversion asymmetry and generate large self-induced SOT.
