[21p-A205-6] 64 Gbps High Efficiency Si Photonic Crystal Slow Light Optical Modulators

In this study, the modulation efficiency of a photonic crystal waveguide Si Mach-Zehnder modulator was improved by increasing the group index of the waveguide from 20 to 30 and optimizing the electrode length and termination resistance. As a result, a clear eye opening was observed at a driving voltage of 3.5 Vpp for a 64 Gbps NRZ signal. The extinction ratio was improved from 2.3 dB to 3.6 dB.
