▲ [21p-A406-5] Development of Novel Active GRIN Fiber for Photonic Applications
Keywords:Yb doped fiber, Laser fiber, Graded index active fiber
The specialty optical fiber market is growing exponentially with numerous applications in the field of amplifiers, lasers, and sensors besides specific requirements in communications. Research activities on specialty optical fibers are mainly focused on the development of a suitable waveguide design with special emphasis on materials to improve fiber performances in terms of power level, nonlinear phenomena, transmission properties, etc. In this regard, graded-index fibers are one important category that finds application in communication for decades to minimize the dispersion characteristics and increase the modal bandwidth. However, graded-index (GRIN) fiber has emerged as a gain medium for high-power fiber laser in order to maintain the beam quality at a high power level. Achieving a Yb doped graded-index structure with a large core is almost impossible to achieve using the simplest and most widely employed Solution doping coupled with the Modified Chemical Vapour Phase doping technique(MCVD). In this regard, a successful attempt has been made to fabricate large-core multimode Yb doped GRIN fiber using the vapor phase chelate delivery technique.
