Photovoltaic (PV)-thermoelectric (TE) tandems (PVTE) are devices that convert the heat generated in the PV to improve the energy efficiency. We have shown theoretically that the maximum output-power of both types of devices is exactly the same. Based on this theory, we will present the relationship between the output-power of the two types and design guidelines for maximizing the output of a two-terminal series PVTE.
