Zirconium nitride (ZrN) is a promising material as thermal conversion material because of its (1) chemical stability, (2) high temperature durability, (3) low cost, and (4) visible light absorption. In this study, ZrN nanoparticles were easily prepared by a ball milling method, and the effect of ball milling on photo-thermal conversion was examined. As a result, we found that the temperature increased proportionally to the milling time under air. The factors that may be considered are the optimization of optical absorption efficiency due to the size reduction by milling and the effect of crystallinity.
