[21p-P18-7] Microdroplet reactor with highly branched open microfluidic channels
Keywords:microfluidic channel, fractal, wettability
We developed a microreactor with "fractal open microfluidic channels" having a large number of hierarchical branching. When droplets of calcium chloride and sodium alginate were simultaneously sprayed on the channels, many droplets were trapped at the peripheral branching points thus their transport and accumulation to the center that is observed for normal solution was hindered. This result suggests that two kinds of droplets collided and merged resulting in immediate crosslinking reactions of alginate to form a non-fluid hydrogel.
