Since the first life forms appeared in the oceans approximately 3.8 billion years ago, life has evolved by acquiring the ability to adapt to water, but there remain many unexplored avenues for the study of molecular mechanisms in water, which accounts for over 70% of the weight of mammalian cells. This study aims to characterize the picosecond to subpicosecond dynamics of liquid water by focusing on the dielectric responses in the terahertz region and to elucidate the role and function of water molecules in cellular activity.
