Recently, coherent photonic linear processors have been gathering attention as unconventional photonic processors such as deep-learning accelerators. Here, we apply a linear photonic processor to the linear projection unit for phase-retrieval coherent detection. As the processor is composed of a compact Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI) array, we can integrate the optics on a chip. As a first demonstration, we confirmed the feasibility of phase-retrieval coherent detection (single-lane 20-Gbaud QPSK signal transmission) using an integrated silica-based photonic linear processor and deep-learning-based digital post processing.
