Mn3-xGa alloys are widely recognized as hard magnets which exhibit highly anisotropic, ferromagnetic, and metallic properties. In order to investigate the origin of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Mn3-xGa, we performed x-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD) with angular dependence. We found that not orbital magnetic moments but quadrupole moments are essential for the appearance of PMA by means of XMLD with angular dependence.
