There are various modalities (X-ray systems, X-ray CT, gamma cameras, ultrasound, MRI, etc.) used in medical diagnosis, and they have been developed with the aim of visualizing tissues and pathological conditions in the human body using their respective characteristics. MRI was commercialized in the early 1980s and has made rapid progress in the past 40 years. In this lecture, I will outline the MRI system and the specifications required for superconducting magnets, and discuss the expectations for superconducting technology.
