Keywords:ultrasonic waves, demineralized bone, piezoelectricity

It has been reported that bone, which is mainly composed of hydroxyapatite and collagen fibers, has piezoelectricity, but its origin is still controversial. We have developed a method to evaluate the piezoelectricity of various biological tissues, including soft tissues, by detecting electric polarization induced by ultrasound through a resonant antenna (acoustically stimulated electromagnetic method). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the piezoelectric polarization of demineralized femoral cortical bone using the acoustically stimulated electromagnetic method, and to clarify the anisotropy and its origin.
