Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are representative members of two-dimensional materials. Their physical properties change significantly by modifications of the symmetry. Owing to the layered nature, the symmetry of two-dimensional materials can be controlled by mechanical exfoliation to change the number of layers or by fabrication of van der Waals heterostructures. In addition, the introduction of tubular structure can realise novel properties beyond two-dimensional. We have focused on WS2, a member of TMDs, and studied its physical properties induced by introduction of the tubular structure. In our study we discovered the bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) in WS2 nanotube. BPVE is a non-linear optical effect that can convert the solar energy to the electrical energy without a help of p-n junctions. I will report details of our findings in my presentation.
