Surface phonon-polariton (SPhP) is generated via hybridization of optical phonons and electromagnetic waves, localized at the interface of absorbent materials. In this research, we analyzed SPhP propagation in a three-layer system consisting of a non-absorbent Si layer sandwiched by absorbent SiO2 nanolayers. It has been believed that SPhP is only localized at the interfaces, but we found that SPhP excited in SiO2 nanolayers couple with resonant guided modes of Si and propagate mainly through the non-absorbent Si layer.
