At RIKEN, the physical and chemical characteristics of superheavy elements (SHEs) have been studied using a gas-filled recoil ion separator (GARIS-Ⅱ, Ⅲ). The SHEs passing through the separator are transported to a focal plane detector of GARIS-II, III. The focal plane detector consists of double-side silicon strip detector and Si semiconductor detectors (SSD) which surround the double-side silicon strip detector in the shape of box. A newly developed pixel type SSDs with thin dead layer are planned to be installed in the focal plane detector system. We investigated the dead layer thickness and energy resolution of the pixel type SSD with 241Am a source. In this conference, we will present the basic characteristics of the pixel type SSD.
