Carbon nano-onions (CNOs) are carbon-based materials which exhibit high chemical stability and large specific surface areas, rendering them a promising material for applications, such as supercapacitors. In this study, we show that sp2 and sp3 hybridized carbons can be observed on the surface of polydimethylsiloxane after femtosecond laser pulse irradiation. In addition, formation of hollow CNOs was confirmed.
