[24p-E201-6] Applications of dynamic metamaterials with vanadium dioxide for optical components in terahertz regions
Keywords:metamaterial, vanadium dioxide
Reconfigurable terahertz components can be realized using artificial sub-wavelength structures, called metamaterials, with vanadium dioxide, which exhibits insulator-to-metal transition. Here, we introduce methods to implement Babinet inversion, which exchanges metallic parts and insulating parts, integrating vanadium dioxide in metamaterials in order to significantly modify their transmission properties. We demonstrate a dynamic filter, dynamic polarizer, dynamic wave plate, and so on as terahertz applications.
