[24p-E303-9] Effect of Metasurface on Thermoelectric Generation in Uniform Temperature Environment

We report the metamaterial thermoelectric conversion that generates electricity under a uniform temperature environment. In its driving mechanism, the metamaterial absorbs thermal radiation emitted from the surrounding environment and generates local heating, leading to an additional thermal gradient across the thermoelectric element. We guess that similar effects can be observed using a broad-band absorber. In this study, we investigated thermoelectric generation in a uniform temperature environment using a carbon black film as a broad-band absorber and compared it with the metamaterial thermoelectric device.
