We have developed a novel method named "X-ray optogenetics." In this method, X-rays are irradiated to induce the emission of scintillator particles embedded in the body, activating light-sensitive proteins expressed in the cells sitting around the scintillator particles. X-ray optogenetics enables remote control of brain functions and can be widely applied in neuroscience. We also hope that our technology will help develop next-generation biomedical techologies toward minimally invasive therapies.
