In this study, the electronic properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNR) are optimized mechanically by applying uniaxial tensile strain. Theoretically, it has been proven that GNR’s electronic band properties can be optimized by subjecting the ribbons under mechanical strain. Here, we prove this theory experimentally by subjecting the fabricated dumbbell-shaped GNR’s under uniaxial tensile strain. At a bias voltage of 1.5V, the maximum photoresponsivity of the strained device was about 4.5 times larger than that of the unstrained device. Hence, we could safely conclude that this method is effective in optimizing electronic band properties as well as optical properties of graphene and several other 2D nanomaterials.
