In an organic light emitting diode, injected charges and excitons coexist under driving the device, and the interactions between hole and exciton cause a quenching reaction. In order to calculate the rate constant of the quenching reaction, it is necessary to estimate the concentration of holes (radical cations) in the device by an experimental method. In this study, we performed absorption measurements during the operation of a hole-only device using optical waveguide absorption spectroscopy to obtain the concentration of holes generated in the device. We succeeded, for the first time, in measuring absorption spectra of radical cations generated by charge injection.
