Cu2SnS3 has a high Seebeck coefficient S and a low thermal conductivity κ, and is expected to be a thermoelectric material composed of abundant, inexpensive, and less toxic elements. In the past, silver was added at the time of synthesis, but this time, silver was added at the time of sintering in order to adjust the silver composition ratio of the sample more precisely, which is a kind of modulation doping. As a result, S deteriorated by a factor of about 0.7, while electrical conductivity σ and κ improved by a factor of 1.5 and 0.7, respectively, resulting in a ZT improvement of about 1.3.
