CdS/CdTe solar cells were commercialized in Japan in the 1980s as calculator solar cells using screen printing and sintering method. In 1999, First Solar was established in the United States, and its use in large-scale solar power generation was actively developed. In this presentation, we will discuss the technological transition from thick-film solar cells by screen printing and sintering method to thin-film solar cells by CSS method and technical efforts to further improve efficiency after 2000.
