We have developed a blue organic light-emitting diodes that can be operated by a extremely low voltage, by utilizing the upconversion process via the generation of charge transfer states at the organic semiconductor interface, energy transfer to the triplet exciton, and triplet-triplet annihilation. The device emits blue light at 462 nm when a 1.5 V battery is connected, and reaches a luminance at 100 cd/m2 when 1.97 V is applied.
