Wind and dust flows near the ground surface change quickly and have a complex nature. Air pollution and dust dispersion poses health hazards to human beings and environment. In this study, we propose a low coherence Doppler lidar with a spatial resolution of 1 m and high-speed measurement capability to measure wind flow near the ground. We are currently focusing on the beam quality of the light source and the coupling efficiency of the receiver system to improve the sensitivity of the lidar. We discuss and evaluate a DFB-LD bulk element and high power DFB-LD as a lidar light source, as well as improvements in the coupling efficiency of the receiving system.
