The third Artificial Intelligence (AI) boom began around 2012, and AI/data-driven research of magnetically confined fusion plasmas progressed over nearly ten years. In 2022, an architecture for magnetic control of fusion plasmas through reinforcement learning was published in Nature. In this paper, data-driven magnetically confined fusion plasmas research is reviewed, and studies using various data-driven methods are introduced.
