[16p-D311-10] Development of a diamond membrane detector dedicated to linear energy deposition distribution measurement in the clinical carbon beam therapy field

The use of multiple ions with different Linear Energy transfers (LET) is being considered to be utilized for more advancement of heavy-ion cancer therapy techniques. However, there remains an issue with the applicability of conventional techniques for such irradiation configuration thus, there is a growing demand for energy-discriminative dosimetry. Energy-differentiated dosimeters utilizing Si-SOI semiconductors have been investigated, but their bioequivalence and radiation tolerance remain problems. On the other hand, diamond, a wide bandgap semiconductor, has excellent radiation tolerance and bioequivalence and is therefore considered to be effective in heavy particle radiation fields where various radiation effects are expected. In this study, a thin-film CVD diamond detector was developed, and its fundamental characteristics were evaluated by measuring the LET distribution at various locations of the carbon beam Bragg peaks.
