[16p-D411-13] Thermoelectric Properties of Ba8Au6−xFexGe40 Clathrate

To improve the thermoelectric performance of Ba8Au6Ge40-based clathrates at high temperatures, we synthesized a new Ba8Au6−xFexGe40(x=0−1) clathrate with Fe substituted for Au and investigated its thermoelectric properties. Compared with Ba8Au6Ge40 (x=0), Ba8Au6−xFexGe40 has a lower electrical conductivity but a higher Seebeck coefficient at high temperatures, and a maximum dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit ZT of about 0.96 (about 791 K), indicating improved performance at high temperatures over previous studies of Ba8Au6Ge40-based clathrates.
