[17a-A304-2] Understanding Accelerator Mass Spectrometry
Keywords:Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, Tandem accelerator, Negative ion
It is still mysterious to me that Accelerator Mass Spectrometry has such a superb sensitivity to detect rare isotopes. It is said that a high ion energy given by an electrostatic accelerator, the stripping process at the terminal of it, and the use of a negative ion are the key issues for the high sensitivity. However, essential mechanism suppressing interference is different from nuclide to nuclide. Besides I previously discussed the concept of "clearness of the ion space". I will discuss again of these items but a little further. I believe it is important to improve the performance of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry in the future.
