[17a-A304-6] Sample preparation for radiocarbon dating of buried materials and tree rings.

Minoru Sakamoto1,2 (1.NMJH, 2.SOKENDAI)

Keywords:radiocarbon dating, Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, sample pretreatment

Radiocarbon dating by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS-14C) has reduced the sample size and improved measurement efficiency. On the other hand, various types and conditions of dated materials are requested by archaeology, history, space and earth science, and so on. It is not easy to respond to all of them with the most appropriate pretreatment method. In this presentation, sample pretreatment will be discussed to achieve high accuracy in AMS-14C, focusing mainly on buried archaeological materials and tree rings.
