Cortisol is the major biomarker for stress in human beings. Quantitative measurement of cortisol can help in diagnosing chronic stress and other physiological and psychological disorders in the early stages. In this presentation, we investigate the development of a non-biological molecular imprinted polypyrrole intrinsically doped with hexacyanoferrate redox label as an electrochemical sensor for detection and determination of cortisol in biological samples. The prepared sensor also leverages excellent electrochemical properties of reduced graphene oxide and host-guest interactions between cortisol and β-cyclodextrin. The sensor exhibits excellent linearity with respect to logarithmic cortisol concentration with wide detection range and low limit of detection. The prepared sensor also demonstrates excellent selectivity towards the target (cortisol). The method and materials discussed can be explored further for developing affordable and point-of-care sensors for other biomarkers.
