It is believed that the spin glass phase in magnetic materials is in the RSB (replica symmetry breaking) state. However, the RSB state has not been confirmed in real spin glass materials. In order to directly verify the RSB state, we attempted spin-polarized STM (scanning tunneling microscopy) observation of the Dy(Ru1-xCox)2Si2 system. In this presentation, we report the details of the detection of 4f electron spins of Dy atoms that are responsible for the magnetism of this material, as the first step for direct verification of RSB.
