[III-20-17] Dietary Grains and Condensed Tannin Interact on Goat Rumen and Blood OBCFA: Variations in Ruminal Precursors Made the Difference

*KE TIAN1, Masato Yayota1 (1. Gifu University)

This experiment was carried out to test the interactions of dietary grains and condensed tannin (CT) on the rumen and plasma OBCFA of goats. A 2 × 2 treatment with 2 grains (corn or barley) and 2 CT levels (0 or 2% wt/wt) was applied and resulted in 4 diets. Then diets were tested using eight Japanese Shiba × Saanen goats allocated in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design. The results showed that CT inclusion induced lower ADFom and aNDFom, but higher fat digestibility in BA than CN (P < 0.01). Inclusion of CT induced lower butyrate, valerate, iso-butyrate but higher iso-valerate in BA compared with CN (P < 0.05), and CT reduced isoleucine, leucin, valine and total branched-chain amino acids (P < 0.05) only in BA but not in CN. The interaction between grain and CT was not significant on amylolytic and cellulolytic microbial flora (P > 0.05). In the rumen, lower C15:0, iso-C17:0, C17:0, total OCFA and OBCFA (P < 0.01) in BA than CN after CT inclusion was observed. In the plasma. Inclusion of CT increased anteiso-C15:0 and iso-C17:0 in BA (P < 0.01). In summary, grains and CT interacted differently on rumen and plasma OBCFA, but only exert beneficial effect in plasma of CN.
