[S8-1] Direct detection of DNA methylation during single-molecule, real-time (SMRT) sequencing
The past summer marks the 10-year anniversary of the first demonstration of DNA methylation detection through kinetic information about polymerase kinetics in SMRT sequencing. In my talk, I would like to recount the history of how this method was developed, followed by examples of how the method has expanded into many areas of microbial and metagenomic research areas. I will also describe selected examples of the latest applications in methylome research, including methylation detection on HiFi sequence reads, advances in m5C detection, and innovative and sometimes surprising uses of methyltransferases in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic research.
