[YRS5-2] Innovation from dentistry
I would like to show the examples to utilize the results, which derived from the study to protect the teeth of the disable patients.Firstly, I found L. rhamnosus L8020, as one of the normal strains of bacteria in the oral cavity and have shown to have inhibitory activity against a broad spectrum of bacteria causing dental caries and periodontal disease, in addition to oral Candida. We further demonstrated that yogurt containing L. rhamnosus L8020 (L8020 yogurt) significantly reduced the risk of dental caries, and suggested that this probiotic organism may be useful in the prevention of caries if consumed daily. L8020 yogurt has also been reported to decrease the oral carriage of four known periodontal pathogens. Secondly, I developed the organosilicon quaternary ammonium salts [3-(triethoxysilyl)- propyldimethyl- octadecyl ammonium chloride (Etak), a coupling agent with disinfectant. It has broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, and fungi. This compound binds chemically to a variety of substrates, making it a nonleachable antibacterial agent. In addition, Etak also essentially inactivated the enveloped virus, such as influenza and corona virus. Recently, we found the inactivation activity of Etak against some kinds of non-enveloped virus, like adenovirus or norovirus. I would like to introduce the application of Etak.
