[CS2-09] A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON LIQUEFACTION PREVENTION APPROACHES
Keywords:Liquefaction, Vibro compaction, Vibro replacement, Stone columns, Sand compaction piles
This paper compares Japanese and European approaches used to evaluate liquefaction potential and effectiveness of different soil improvement methods including vibro compaction and replacement. Despite the difference in concept, safety factors according to Japanese Standard and Eurocode are quite similar and comparable. Without soil improvement, Eurocode gives less conservative result compared to Japanese code; and it is opposite with ground improvement. Therefore, using Japanese standard in case of soil improvement to prevent liquefaction might be more beneficial than adopting Eurocode.
