[CS3-02] Analytical study on the Effects of angle reinforcement on fatigue strengths of U-rib and transverse rib connections.

Orthotropic steel decks (OSDs) are widely used for long bridges due to its light weight. Furthermore, it could be used for replacement of RC/PC slabs because of short construction time and small seismic load. However, the OSDs have low fatigue strengths. Thus, a study project has been started to improve fatigue strengths of U-rib and transverse rib connections of OSDs. In this paper, angle reinforcement is evaluated by FEA with an actual bridge model. As a result, the angle reinforcement is effective to improve fatigue strengths of the connections because it can reduce the maximum principal stresses and stresses perpendicular to weld bead.
