[I-182] Circumferential bending moment and stress estimation of penstocks on saddle support

The design formula of stress distribution of penstocks around the saddle support depends on research results of the 1940's to the 1960's. It is considered necessary to check the safety of this part with full use of recent analysis techniques. In this paper, parameter studies are conducted under the actual condition using nonlinear FEM analysis, and numerical values of the evaluation formula are reviewed and the points to be noted in maintenance are discussed.
