[I-284] Performance evaluation of Hydro-VENUS blade based on blade element momentum theory
Keywords:Hydro-VENUS, Tidal power generation, Wind power generation, Columnar body with semi-elliptical cross-section, Blade element momentum theory
The Hydro-VENUS (Hydrokinetic Vortex Energy Utilization System) to generate hydropower by rotating a columnar body based on the galloping excitation has been developed. In this study, the blade performances of the rotating Hydro-VENUS blade are analyzed based on the blade element momentum theory, which is commonly used for the performance evaluation of airfoil blades. Then the applicability of this theory to the Hydro-VENUS blades is examined. The analytical results qualitatively agree with the performance obtained in the water channel tests of the actually rotating Hydro-VENUS blades.
