Hammering testing is generally and widely used as a nondestructive inspection method for internal defects in concrete structures from the viewpoint of ease of inspection and cost. However, one of the main issues in hammering testing is that the diagnosis result may depend on the skill of the expert, and therefore development of a reliable inspection method is desired. The present inventors are promoting development of Digital Hammering inspection technique using an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. In this report, this technology is applied to a specimen simulating various internal defects, and its applicability and issues are summarized.
