[V-317] Investigation of corrosion behavior of a nickel-bearing weathering steel bridge by using mock-up structure in anti-freezing agent environment
Keywords:corrosion, Steel Bridge, Weathering Steel, Airborne salt, Maintenance
Recently, the weathering steel may be applied for steel bridges in consideration of the life cycle cost. Although the Niishiki Bridge of Tohoku Shinkansen is located about 8 km away from the Pacific Ocean, it is a bridge that straddles Route 45, where antifreeze is sprayed, and there is concern about the salinity effect due to its winding. Therefore, 1.5Ni-0.3Mo weathering steel was applied. In this report, to demonstrate of the soundness of the bridge using the same steel and to clarify the main part of maintenance, the mock-up bridge structure was exposed and the corrosion behavior was investigated. As a result, the corrosion was lower level, and the maintenance part was the lower flange.
