[V-50] A Seismic Strengthening Design of Rocking Piers of A Road Bridge
Keywords:Road Bridge, Rocking Piers, Seismic Strengtening, Brace, Reinforce concrete jacket
In April 2016, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, resulting in falling down of a road bridge due to the failure of rocking piers. Facing the similar risk in the future, the authors’ company determined to strengthen many bridges. The Torisaka Bridge is located in the section between Shimizu IC and Shizuoka IC, Tomei Expressway. The piers of this bridge are rocking type, and this bridge has been oblique angle. The seismic design was ordered three years ago. In the detailed design, non-linear dynamic analysis by the whole structure system of the bridge was used, and construction of concrete in the foundation, hardening, and seismic reinforcement by brace were designed.
