2019年度に実施する常磐線新地駅の線路有効長延伸に伴い、分岐器両側（基準側・分岐側）介在ロングレール区間の分岐器を移設する工事が計画されている。従来、分岐器介在ロングレール区間の分岐器の移設は、予め当該区間の前後に伸縮継目を挿入し、当該区間を定尺レール化した後に実施するのが通例であったが、今回、工期短縮およびコストダウンのため、伸縮継目を挿入せずに、分岐器両側介在ロングレール区間の分岐器を移設する工法を検討した。
