宮崎県に分布する日南層群（付加体）においてトンネル工事を行ったが、予想以上の切羽の崩落や異常沈下が発生した。当初設計での掘削パターンでは切羽の安定性が確保できないため、補助工法を追加し切羽の安定性を確保した。その施工実績の報告である。
