[VII-167] Study on applicability of soil covering material using materials mixed with different kinds of bentonite

Regarding the cover soil layer in low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities, the application of Ca-type bentonite mixed soil is being considered. However, the initial performance of the Ca-type bentonite mixed soil is inferior to that of the Na-type bentonite mixed soil. Then, the specification which blended Na type and Ca type bentonite was examined. As a result, it turned out that it can be an effective improvement means for securing the permeability coefficient at the time of construction. Moreover, there is a possibility that the influence can be reduced with respect to the density reduction due to the swelling deformation, which is a problem of using Na type single substance.
